A vulnerability in Cisco’s Precision Video Engine (CVPE) code could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to cause the crash of various processes and the disconnection of any active calls.
The vulnerability is due to improper handling of crafted Real-Time Protocol (RTP) packets sent at a high rate. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending crafted RTP packets to the affected system.
Cisco has confirmed this vulnerability in a security notice and released software updates.
To exploit this vulnerability, an attacker may need access to trusted, internal networks to send crafted RTP packets to the device. This access requirement decreases the likelihood of a successful exploit.
Cisco indicates through the CVSS score that functional exploit code exists; however, the code is not known to be publicly available.
