Description

It was discovered that unzip did not properly handle unicode strings under certain circumstances. If a user were tricked into opening a specially crafted zip file, an attacker could possibly use this issue to cause unzip to crash, resulting in a denial of service, or possibly execute arbitrary code. (CVE-2021-4217) It was discovered that unzip did not properly perform bounds checking while converting wide strings to local strings. If a user were tricked into opening a specially crafted zip file, an attacker could possibly use this issue to cause unzip to crash, resulting in a denial of service, or possibly execute arbitrary code. (CVE-2022-0529, CVE-2022-0530) Update Instructions: Run sudo pro fix USN-5673-1 to fix the vulnerability. The problem can be corrected by updating your system to the following package versions: unzip – 6.0-20ubuntu1.1+esm1 Available with Ubuntu Pro (Infra-only): https://ubuntu.com/pro

Mitigation

Users of affected products are strongly encouraged to follow the mitigations below. The Cloud Foundry project recommends upgrading the following releases:

  • Bionic Stemcells
    • Upgrade 1.x versions to 1.122 or greater
    • All other stemcells should be upgraded to the latest version available on bosh.io.
  • cflinuxfs3
    • Upgrade all versions to 0.328.0 or greater
  • Jammy Stemcells
    • Upgrade 1.x versions to 1.30 or greater
    • All other stemcells should be upgraded to the latest version available on bosh.io.
  • CF Deployment
    • Upgrade all versions to 23.0.0 or greater, upgrade Jammy Stemcells to 1.30 or greater, upgrade Bionic Stemcells to 1.122 or greater, and upgrade Xenial Stemcells to 621.304 or greater
