Intel ® Manycore Platform Software Stack (MPSS) for Linux and Windows have addressed the following vulnerabilities in Expat.
Summary
Intel® Manycore Platform Software Stack (MPSS) for Linux and Windows have addressed the following vulnerabilities in Expat.
Vulnerability Details:
CVEID: CVE-2012-6702
Description: Expat, when used in a parser that has not called XML_SetHashSalt or passed it a seed of 0, could provide weaker than expected security. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability using attack vectors involving use of the srand function to defeat cryptographic protection mechanisms.
CVSS Base Score: 5.9
CVSS Temporal Score: See <https://exchange.xforce.ibmcloud.com/vulnerabilities/114541> for the current score
CVSS Environmental Score*: Undefined
CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.0/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:H/A:N)
CVEID: CVE-2016-5300
Description: Expat XML parser is vulnerable to a denial of service, caused by the failure to use sufficient entropy for hash initialization. By using specially-crafted identifiers in an XML document, a remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability to cause the application to crash.
CVSS Base Score: 5.3
CVSS Temporal Score: See <https://exchange.xforce.ibmcloud.com/vulnerabilities/114435> for the current score
CVSS Environmental Score*: Undefined
CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.0/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:L)
Affected Products and Versions
The following products used with Intel Xeon Phi PCI-Express cards (Intel Xeon Phi 3120A, Intel Xeon Phi 5110P, Intel Xeon Phi 7120A, and Intel Xeon Phi 7210P) on the System x systems:
Remediation/Fixes:
IBM recommends that you update the affected versions of Intel MPSS that are used with the Intel Xeon Phi cards supported in IBM System x Servers to MPSS version 3.7.2 or later. Instructions on how to download and apply the update are available at: https://software.intel.com/en-us/articles/intel-manycore-platform-software-stack-mpss.
