CVE-ID:CVE-2014-0076

**Description:**OpenSSL could allow a local attacker to obtain sensitive information, caused by an implementation error in ECDSA (Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm). An attacker could exploit this vulnerability using the FLUSH+RELOAD cache side-channel attack to recover ECDSA nonces. This vulnerability can only be exploited locally, authentication is not required and the exploit is not complex. An exploit can only partially affect confidentiality, but not integrity or availability.

CVSS Base Score: 2.1 **CVSS Temporal Score:**See <https://exchange.xforce.ibmcloud.com/vulnerabilities/91990> *CVSS Environmental Score:**Undefined CVSS Vector: (AV:L/AC:L/Au:N/C:P/I:N/A:N)

Affected Products and Versions

IBM Rational ClearQuest versions:

 • 7.1.1 through 7.1.1.9
 • 7.1.2 through** **7.1.2.13
 • 8.0 through 8.0.0.10
 • 8.0.1 through 8.0.1.3.

Note: Versions earlier than 7.1.1 are not affected.

OpenSSL is shipped as embedded in cqperl.

Rational ClearQuest does not provide any services using OpenSSL.

No server component is affected.

You are vulnerable if:

 1. You use OpenSSL in the perl hooks/scripts

**and

**
2. Your perl hooks/scripts communicate with a server that uses ECDSA server certificates

**and

**
3. Your perl hooks/scripts use client certificates with ECDSA.

Notes:

 • If your server uses other certificate types, you are not vulnerable.
 • If you do not use client certificates, you are not vulnerable.

Remediation/Fixes

Apply an interim fix for your appropriate release of Rational ClearQuest.

* 7.1.1.x: Upgrade to [Rational ClearQuest Fix Pack 13 (7.1.2.13) for 7.1.2](<http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?&uid=swg24036978>) **plus** [Interim fix 1 (7.1.2.13.01)](<http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?&uid=swg24037379>)**

Note:** 7.1.2.13 inter-operates with all 7.1.1.x systems, and can be installed in the same way as 7.1.1.x fix packs.

* 7.1.2.x: Install [Rational ClearQuest Fix Pack 13 (7.1.2.13) for 7.1.2](<http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?&uid=swg24036978>) **plus** [Interim fix 1 (7.1.2.13.01)](<http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?&uid=swg24037379>)

* 8.0.0.x: Install [Rational ClearQuest Fix Pack 10 (8.0.0.10) for 8.0](<http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?&uid=swg24036980>) **plus** [Interim fix 1 (8.0.0.10.01)](<http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?&uid=swg24037381>)

* 8.0.1.x: Install [Rational ClearQuest Fix Pack 3 (8.0.1.3) for 8.0.1](<http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?&uid=swg24036982>) **plus** [Interim fix 1 for (8.0.1.3.01)](<http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?&uid=swg24037383>)

Workarounds and Mitigations

You can avoid the issue as follows:

* Avoid using ECDSA certificates (client or server) until you apply the fixes.

* Avoid using SSL operations with ECDSA in perl hooks/scripts until you apply the fixes.
