DESCRIPTION: *Apache POI is vulnerable to a denial of service, caused by an error while parsing malicious WMF, EMF, MSG and macros and specially crafted DOC, PPT and XLS. By persuading a victim to open a specially crafted file, a remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability to cause the application to enter into an infinite loop or an out of memory exception.

Workarounds and Mitigations

Download latest Apache POI. Follow below instructions to replace the Apache POI jar files in IBM Tivoli Netcool Service Quality Manager 4.1.4.

  1. Stop Oracle and TNSQM
  2. Switch to the same user who installed the product, for example user “saserver”, and locate the install directory, for example /appl/
  3. Backup and remove all poi*.jar files from these locations:
    oracle/product/11.2.0/db_1/sqldeveloper/sqldeveloper/lib
    sa/lib/tp
  4. Copy the latest poi*.jar files to the above locations.
  5. Start Oracle and TNSQM
