Security Bulletin: IBM InfoSphere Information Server: Possible session fixation vulnerability (CVE-2013-0507)
SUMMARY:
Information Server does not update the session identifier after a successful authentication. This can lead to session fixation attacks. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability to gain unauthorized access to the application by acting as the session created by a regular user.
VULNERABILITY DETAILS:
**CVE ID:**CVE-2013-0507
CVSS:
CVSS Base Score: 4.3
CVSS Temporal Score: See https://exchange.xforce.ibmcloud.com/vulnerabilities/82397 for the current score
CVSS Environmental Score*: Undefined
CVSS Vector: (AV:N/AC:M/Au:N/C:P/I:N/A:N)
AFFECTED PRODUCTS:
IBM InfoSphere Information Server Versions 8.1, 8.5, and 8.7 running on all platforms.
IBM InfoSphere Information Server Version 9.1 is vulnerable on all platforms only when running on WebSphere Application Server version 7.0.
REMEDIATION:
The recommended solution is to apply the fix as soon as practical. Please see below for additional information.
Fix(es):
Important! After applying the fixes below, or if no fixes are required, security scanning tools may still report this as a vulnerability; however, if all settings were applied correctly the vulnerability is addressed and is not a concern.
Versions 8.0 and 8.1: Please contact IBM Support for information.
Versions 8.5, 8.7 and 9.1: For version 8.5 you must upgrade to WebSphere Application Server 7.0 and enable security integration in the WebSphere Application Server session management settings. Please contact IBM Support for assistance with the upgrade. For versions 8.7 or 9.1, if WebSphere Application Server 8.0 or 8.5 is used no issue exists. If WebSphere Application Server 7.0 is used, you must enable security integration in the WebSphere Application Server session management settings.
To enable security integration:
1. Login to the WebSphere Administration Integrated Solutions Console
2. Click Security > Global security
3. Expand Web and SIP security and select General settings
4. The โAuthenticate only when the URI is protectedโ radio button should be selected
5. Check โUse available authentication data when an unprotected URI is accessedโ
6. Click Apply
7. Click Servers > Server Types > WebSphere application servers
8. Click the server name (for clustered configuration you must repeat this for each application server in the cluster)
9. Click Session management
10. Check Security Integration
11. Click Apply
12. Save the changes and restart the application server (for clustered configurations, you must update and save this setting for every application server in the cluster and then restart the cluster)
For further details refer to: HTTP session management settings.
Workaround(s):
None known.
Mitigation(s):
