Vendor: Marel
Equipment: Food Processing Systems
Vulnerabilities: Hard-Coded Passwords, Unrestricted Upload, Improper Access Control
This updated advisory is a follow-up to the original advisory titled ICSA-17-094-02 Marel Food Processing Systems that was published April 4, 2017, on the NCCIC/ICS-CERT web site.
--------- Begin Update A Part 1 of 3 --------

--------- End Update A Part 1 of 3 ----------
A remote attacker may be able to gain unauthorized administrative access to affected devices.
--------- Begin Update A Part 2 of 3 --------
Marel has created an update for Pluto-based applications, which they will release on October 1, 2017. This update will restrict remote access by implementing SSH authentication.
Marel reports that all M3000 terminal based products were at end-of-life in July 2012, and, thus, will not release product fixes to address the identified vulnerabilities. Marel recommends that users upgrade these end-of-life systems.

ICS-CERT recommends that users take defensive measures to minimize the risk of exploitation of these vulnerabilities. Specifically, users should:
ICS-CERT reminds organizations to perform proper impact analysis and risk assessment prior to deploying defensive measures.
ICS-CERT also provides a section for control systems security recommended practices on the ICS-CERT web page. Several recommended practices are available for reading and download, including Improving Industrial Control Systems Cybersecurity with Defense-in-Depth Strategies.
Additional mitigation guidance and recommended practices are publicly available in the ICSβCERT Technical Information Paper, ICS-TIP-12-146-01BβTargeted Cyber Intrusion Detection and Mitigation Strategies, that is available for download from the ICS-CERT web site.
Organizations observing any suspected malicious activity should follow their established internal procedures and report their findings to ICS-CERT for tracking and correlation against other incidents.
No known public exploits specifically target these vulnerabilities.
The end user does not have the ability to change system passwords.
