Successful exploitation of these vulnerabilities could allow an attacker to view sensitive files, bypass authorization, or take over another account.
The following versions of Teamcenter, a virtualization platform, are affected:
Teamcenter 12.4: All versions prior to 12.4.0.8
Teamcenter 13.0: All versions prior to 13.0.0.7
Teamcenter 13.1: All versions prior to 13.1.0.5
Teamcenter 13.2: All versions prior to 13.2.0.2
The โsurrogateโ functionality on the user profile of the application does not perform sufficient access control, which may allow an account takeover. Any profile on the application can perform this attack and access any other user assigned tasks via the โinbox/surrogate tasks.โ
CVE-2021-40354 has been assigned to this vulnerability. A CVSS v3 base score of 7.1 has been calculated; the CVSS vector string is (AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:L/A:N).
The affected application contains an insecure direct object reference (IDOR) vulnerability, which may allow an attacker to use user-supplied input to access objects directly.
CVE-2021-40355 has been assigned to this vulnerability. A CVSS v3 base score of 7.2 has been calculated; the CVSS vector string is (AV:N/AC:L/PR:H/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H).
The application contains an XML external entity injection (XXE) vulnerability, which may allow an attacker to view files on the application server filesystem.
CVE-2021-40356 has been assigned to this vulnerability. A CVSS v3 base score of 5.3 has been calculated; the CVSS vector string is (AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N).
Nicolas Verdier from TEHTRIS reported these vulnerabilities to Siemens.
Siemens has released updates for the affected products and recommends updating to the latest versions at [https://support.sw.siemens.com/](<https://support.sw.siemens.com/ >) (login required):
Siemens has identified the following specific workarounds and mitigations that users can apply to reduce the risk:
As a general security measure, Siemens strongly recommends protecting network access to devices with appropriate mechanisms. In order to operate the devices in a protected IT environment, Siemens recommends to configure the environment according to the Siemens operational guidelines for industrial security, and to follow the recommendations in the product manuals.
Additional information on industrial security by Siemens can be found at: <https://www.siemens.com/industrialsecurity>
For more information about this issue, please see Siemens Security Advisory SSA-987403
CISA recommends users take defensive measures to minimize the risk of exploitation of these vulnerabilities. Specifically, users should:
CISA reminds organizations to perform proper impact analysis and risk assessment prior to deploying defensive measures.
CISA also provides a section for control systems security recommended practices on the ICS webpage on us-cert.cisa.gov. Several recommended practices are available for reading and download, including Improving Industrial Control Systems Cybersecurity with Defense-in-Depth Strategies.
Additional mitigation guidance and recommended practices are publicly available on the ICS webpage on us-cert.cisa.gov in the Technical Information Paper, ICS-TIP-12-146-01BโTargeted Cyber Intrusion Detection and Mitigation Strategies.
Organizations observing any suspected malicious activity should follow their established internal procedures and report their findings to CISA for tracking and correlation against other incidents.
CISA also recommends users take the following measures to protect themselves from social engineering attacks:
