Details
Symantec was notified that Symantec Client Security and Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition are susceptible to a potential stack overflow. Exploiting this overflow successfully could potentially cause a system crash, or allow a remote or local attacker to execute arbitrary code with System level rights on the affected system.
This issue is a candidate for inclusion in the Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE) list (<http://cve.mitre.org>), which standardizes names for security problems. CVE has assigned the following identifier to this issue: CVE-2006-2630.

Mitigation
Symantec Security Response has released virus definitions to detect several threats which attempt to exploit this vulnerability and vulnerabilities in several other products.
Symantec Security Response has also released IPS signatures to detect attempts to exploit this issue. The following updates are all available through LiveUpdate:
Symantec Network Security Appliance 7100:
SU 46 and later protect against attacks against port 2967. SU 46 was released in May, 2006.
SU 66 and later protect against attacks against port 2968. SU 66 was released on January 13, 2007.
Symantec Gateway Security 3.0:
SU 19 and later protect against attacks on port 2967. SU 19 was released in May 2006.
SU 34 and later protect against attacks on port 2968. SU 34 was released on January 12, 2007.
Symantec Client Security 2.0 and 3.0:
SU 22 and later protect against attacks on port 2967.
SU 44 and later protect against attacks on port 2968. SU 44 was released on January 12, 2007.
