Microsoft SharePoint is prone to a remote privilege-escalation vulnerability. An attacker can exploit this issue to escalate privileges and perform unauthorized actions.
Block external access at the network boundary, unless external parties require service.
If global access isn’t needed, filter access to the affected computer at the network boundary. Restricting access to only trusted computers and networks might greatly reduce the likelihood of successful exploits.
Deploy network intrusion detection systems to monitor network traffic for malicious activity.
Deploy a NIDS between the computer that is hosting the vulnerable service and the network perimeter. Flag on all anomalous communications that are destined for the vulnerable service. Audit logs regularly for evidence of potential attacks.
Permit privileged access for trusted individuals only.
Permit privileged access to known and trusted individuals only. This may prove to limit exposure to this and other latent vulnerabilities.
