In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ALSA:
hda: Fix possible null-ptr-deref when assigning a stream While AudioDSP
drivers assign streams exclusively of HOST or LINK type, nothing blocks a
user to attempt to assign a COUPLED stream. As supplied substream instance
may be a stub, what is the case when code-loading, such scenario ends with
null-ptr-deref.

Notes

Author Note
sbeattie for identifying the introducing the vulnerability, 14752412721c “ALSA: hda - Add the controller helper codes to hda-core module” (v4.2-rc1) is the raw result of git blaming sound/hda/hdac_stream.c, but, as its commit message states, it introduces duplicate code from the legacy driver; use the commit that introduced it in the legacy driver: d5cf99119882 “ALSA: hda - Distinguish each substream for better sticky assignment” (v3.2-rc1)
